Busy Domestic Travel Seasons
Knowing “peak period” in Japan is important especially when you book your accommodation and transportation, as room rates goes extremely expensive in popular tourist destinations, or you may get stuck in heavy traffic en-route and long que for your meal.
Super Peak Golden Week (end of April – early May), Obon Holidays (middle of August), Silver Week (late September), and Year End/New Year Holidays (end of Dec-early Jan) are “super peak” for Japanese domestic travellers.
Other holiday seasons Summer holidays (late Jul-Aug ) and long weekend attached with national holidays are also busy holiday seasons in Japan.
Travel Advise: Congestion normally eases once the holiday is over, and accommodation rate tends to be much cheaper. Check national holidays calendar before you decide travel date for saving time and cost.
