JR (Japan Rail) group announced that they will revise the service and price of the Japan Rail Pass(JR Pass), a rail tour pass for foreign tourists, around October 2023.
The price of new JR Pass will be increased by up to 77% (e.g. 29,650yen –> 50,000yen / 7days), more flexible options will be provided such as extended route coverage or use of “Nozomi” shinkansen with additional fee.

With this significant price increase, travellers will need to think carefully about whether they should really buy a JR Pass. For example, considering that the Shinkansen fare between Tokyo and Osaka is 15,000 yen, it would be less expensive to buy a regular ticket unless you travel very frequently.
